The Duke of Edinburgh
1921 – 2021
Today we learnt of the devastating news that Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh has passed away and our thoughts are with the Royal family at this sad time.
The Prince demonstrated dedication and commitment to duty, throughout decades of change, from the dark post war years through to the new horizons of the 21st century, providing essential continuity for the nation alongside HM The Queen.
On behalf of the people of Blandford Forum, the Mayor Councillor Lynn Lindsay has written to Buckingham Palace to express the Town’s sorrow.
Cllr Lindsay is advising residents that, “This is a period of public grief, during an unprecedented period, when people would normally come together to mourn a national figure who has been consistent throughout our lives, and for whom we have collective affection despite not knowing him personally. However, with the current challenges we are faced with, we are strongly encouraged to follow the Government guidance with regard to social distancing and, as a result, the Town Council will not be hosting a Book of Condolence that would ordinarily be located in the Corn Exchange and instead direct residents to the following website: www.royal.uk”.
