Will there still be a big tree in the Market Place this year?
Yes! It was delivered on 25th November and will be lit on 2nd December.
Unfortunately we won’t be organising a tree lighting event this year.
What about the small trees and column lights?
Yes, these have been installed and switched on. It is important to create a festive feeling in the town each year, but even more so this year!
Will there still be a Christmas Tree Festival in the church?
The church volunteers are organising a Christmas Tree Trail this year, that we can all participate in, with trees decorated by schools/organisations displayed in shop windows instead of the church.
Is the Blandford Yuletide Festival taking place this year?
The current restrictions imposed by the Government across the nation do not allow the Blandford Yuletide Festival Group to manage the preparations necessary for a Christmas Market or for a Father Christmas grotto. It is with sadness that they therefore must forgo any organised yuletide activities in 2020, and in line with many others, look forward to 2021.
They would however like to support local businesses and crafters as much as possible and therefore encourage you to contact them through their website and social media where they are holding an online ‘market’ and keep people up to date with details of opening times, free delivery promotions etc. The Yuletide Festival Group hope that their online market will help people to continue to shop local and shop safe!
Will the Christmas Window Competition still take place?
The Town Council is continuing to run its window competition, encouraging shops and businesses to enhance the town’s image and create a wonderful atmosphere for its residents, and visitors to the town, during the festive period.
Will there still be free parking this year?
Yes. This has been arranged for 5th, 12th, 19th and 24th December for the Market Place, Sheep Market Hill, Marsh & Ham, Station Court, Church Lane, Eagle House Gardens and Langton Road car parks. Please note time limits still apply.
Will there be a civic carol service in the church?
Sadly, we won’t be organising this wonderful event this year but the church is looking at innovative ways of holding their other services within the guidelines.
Is there anything different happening this year?
Yes, Councillors resolved to light up Woodhouse Gardens this year – for the first time – for five weeks from the end of November! However, we brought this forward to 4th November to avoid it being cancelled completely as a result of the lockdown.
Here a preview, compiled by BH Sound and Lighting.
